Artist spotlight: Maddison Haan's nature-inspired art on Plan canvases

We're kicking off an Artist Spotlight series with the work of Maddison Haan, a self-taught artist based in Boise, Idaho, whose beautiful nature-inspired artwork recently found its way onto four of our framed canvases.

It's always exciting seeing how artists make our canvases their own, and we're so pleased Maddison chose Plan for this collection of works.

Meet the artist: Maddison Haan

Maddison's work is rooted in nature and the little moments in life that are easy to overlook.

Since becoming a mother in 2023, her art has become increasingly influenced by the passing of time, the changing seasons and finding beauty in everyday moments. Flowers are a recurring subject, often used to explore those ideas through soft, expressive forms.

There's something really lovely about the way she approaches art. It's not just about making something beautiful for a wall, but creating a reminder to slow down and appreciate what's happening around us.

You can explore more of her original artwork and collections on Maddison's website.

Four canvases, one very beautiful collection

Maddison chose a selection of Plan's framed canvas kits, giving her three raw cotton canvases and one raw linen canvas to work with. And these are the results.

Safe to say we're obsessed with how these turned out. The muted blue-grey tones, delicate floral shapes and loose, almost watercolour-like washes work so beautifully against the natural cotton canvas. Some areas are soft and faded, others darker and more defined, with little scattered marks bringing movement into the compositions.

And the exposed fabric is just as much a part of the artwork as the painted sections.

The larger floral composition on raw linen is equally beautiful. The natural warmth and texture of the fabric show through the artwork, while the dark wooden edge frame gives it that clean, finished look.

It's especially nice seeing how Maddison has carried a consistent style across different canvas sizes and fabrics, while giving each piece its own character.

That's what we love about our Blank Canvas Kits. They give artists and anyone who loves creating a starting point, with raw cotton or linen canvas and everything needed to build and frame it. The rest is entirely up to you.

We're so glad these four canvases found their way into Maddison's hands. We couldn't have imagined a lovelier outcome.
