STEP 1: BUILD THE FRAME

Before any paint touches the canvas, you build the structure that holds your artwork together. Our frames are custom-designed for Plan and handcrafted locally in Edinburgh, giving you a solid, gallery-worthy base from the very start.

This step isn't just practical. It changes your relationship with the finished piece. When you've built the frame with your own hands, the artwork already feels personal before you even start painting.

STEP 2: CANVAS STRETCHING

CUSTOM-DESIGNED,
HANDCRAFTED LOCALLY

Each frame is made specifically for Plan by a local craftsman in Edinburgh. The design isn’t standard or off-the-shelf, it’s been developed to be stronger, more stable, and more satisfying to build than traditional stretcher bars.

A FRAME YOU
ACTIVELY BUILD

This isn’t a pre-made frame you simply slot together. You take part in the construction process, which slows things down and grounds the experience. By the time the canvas goes on, you’re already invested in the piece.

BUILT FOR STRENGTH
AND CONFIDENCE

Think of it as stretcher bars on steroids. The construction is reinforced with unique triangular corner pieces, secured using the staple gun included in your kit. The result is a frame that feels sturdy, solid, and genuinely well made.

DESIGNED TO HANG
BEAUTIFULLY

Each frame has a continuous internal groove running along all sides. This means your finished artwork can be hung securely using a simple pin or screw, and rotated easily, whichever way you choose to display it.

THE FOUNDATION OF
YOUR ARTWORK

Everything that follows depends on this step. The frame sets the tension of the canvas, the stability of the painting surface, and the presence of the final piece on the wall. It’s not just part of the kit, it’s part of the art.
